This cosmetic peptide is used for sensitive skin care. The tetrapeptide targets neurosensitive skin by decreasing the release of pro-inflammatory mediators and increasing the skin’s tolerance level, making skin less reactive and diminishing the sensation of pain and discomfort.
More than 40% of the population complains of having sensitive skin. Such skin, unlike normal skin, reacts negatively to different environmental factors: temperature changes, exposure to the sun, use of cosmetic products, medicines. After contact with these factors, sensitive skin sufferers feel uncomfortable sensations, like tingling, burning or have redness of the skin.
The effect of acetyl tetrapeptide-15 is similar to that of natural opioids. They act on pain receptors (nerve endings) and reduce their activity. This reduces the sensation of pain and discomfort resulting from factors causing skin sensitivity.
Clinical studies in vitro have shown that the reduced relaxation of the neurotransmitter CGRP (Calcitonin Gene Related Peptide) in sensory neurons decreased skin sensitivity reactions. It has also been shown that acetyl tetrapeptide-15 acts as an opioid receptor agonist. Clinical studies in vivo revealed that this reduces the discomfort and pain caused by an external stimulus (heat and capsaicin).
Thus, acetyl tetrapeptide-15 helps to restore a normal level of skin tolerance to environmental factors or cosmetics.
