Chemical name (INCI):
Palmitoyl hexapeptide-12, otherwise known as palmitoyl oligopeptide, is a new generation amino-peptide composed of three amino acids connected with palmitic acid. This peptide is combined with palmitic acid to make it more lipophillic, to improve its stability and to enhance its affinity towards human skin.
Palmitoyl hexapeptide-12 is a fragment of a type I collagen molecule. It acts as a neurotransmitter, stimulates production of collagen and other major extracellular matrix proteins. Together with palmitoyl tetrapeptide-7, it works synergistically and significantly increases the amount of collagen and hyaluronic acid in the skin. Evidence for the efficacy of these two peptides is provided by various in vitro and in vivo studies.
